BC Hoops Director: West Monell

West Monell is NFHS-certified in coaching, nutrition, and sportsmanship in the state of California.

He played basketball for nearly 20 years, most notably, as a point guard for San Pasqual High. Some career highlights include tying the school record with 13 assists in a single game, and finishing with the 4th most 3-pointers made in San Diego County during the 2003-2004 season. He was a red-shirt freshman at Mesa College before becoming the Boys’ Varsity Assistant Coach at San Pasqual High for 3 seasons. For the inaugural season at Del Norte High, he became the Boys’ Freshmen Assistant Coach, one of the program’s strength and conditioning coaches, as well as head coach for the 5h & 8th grade boys’ teams for theNighthawk Youth Basketball Club (NYBC).

Over the years West has instructed at local basketball clinics under the direction of former NBA Player Jim Brogan, former NBA shooting coach Clyde Fouts, and former USD ToreroBrooks Barnhard. He has also spent time officiating youth leagues and scorekeeping. A coach’s son, his father Orlando Monell is known as a players’ coach that promotes development on and off the court. Orlando formerly coached for several club basketball programs, Orange Glen High, San Pasqual High, and Del Norte High.
